0
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
ORDER NO. Ilfl
WASTE DISCHARGE REQUIREMENTS
FOR
R. LAWSON ENTERPRISES
dba WILDROSE VINEYARDS
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region, (hereafter Board) finds
that:
1. R. Lawson Enterprises dba WildRose Vineyards (hereafter Discharger) submitted a Report of
Waste Discharge (RWD) dated 13 April 2000 to treat and dispose of wastewater generated at a
winery. Additional information was submitted on 15 May 2000 and 16 June 2000.
2. R. Lawson Enterprises is a limited liability corporation and owns the property where the winery,
ancillary buildings, wastewater disposal pond, and surrounding vineyard and cherry orchard are
located, n
3. California Fruit Processors (CFP) leases a building, yard, and wastewater pond space from
R. Lawson Enterprises. CFP is a cherry briner whose activities require storage of fruit in brine
solutions. During the processing season, approximately 200 gallons per day of wastewater is
discharged to a treatment system. In approximately July through November of every year, CFP
discharges approximately 15 percent of the stored and treated brine water to the wastewater pond.
Prior to discharge, hydrogen peroxide (H202) is added to the brine solution to precipitate gypsum
which is then sold as a soil amendment. CFP is presently discharging wastewater under Title 27
Waste Discharge Requirements ()ArDRs) Order No. 92-154. The CFP wastewater discharge is to
the unlined wastewater pond. These WDRs do not address the waste from CFP.
4. The Discharger was granted a one-year waiver of WDRs in order to monitor the wastewater quality
in 1999 and prepare a RWD. The Discharger failed to collect the wastewater quality data. These
WDRs were prepared based on typical winery wastewater data. n
5. Wastewater generated at WildRose Vineyards and CFP is commingled at the treatment system
sump. Treatment consists of screening the wastewater prior to discharge. Presently, discharge is to
the existing wastewater pond or cropland.
6. The winery is located on 20.9 acres (Assessor's Parcel Nos. 051-060-02, 03, 04, 40, 41 and
051-030-50, 51, 59, 63) in Section 4, T3N,R7E,MDB&M, at 8751 East Highway 12, Victor in
San Joaquin County. The location of the winery facility is shown on Attachment A,which is
attached hereto and is made part of this Order by reference.
7. Activities at the winery include receiving, crushing and pressing of grapes, fermentation,
processing into finished wines, and distribution. A bottling line is planned for the future.
