(Shaw) was retained by SBC to generate a work plan for the
destruction of three groundwater monitoring wells at the above-referenced site (Figure 1). This
work planhas been prepared in response to a written request from the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) as part of the Case Closure Requirements
(Attachment 1).
SITE BACKGROUND
In February 2002, a 500-gallon heating oil UST was encountered on the southeastern portion of
the site during grading. The age of this UST is unknown; however, it is believed the UST was
used to supply fuel for the heating system of a former residential structure on the site; hence tank
installation likely occurred one-half century or more ago. This UST was removed in early 2002.
No petroleum hydrocarbon analytes were detected in a soil sample collected from the base of the
UST excavation. Approximately 31 cubic yards of fill material generated during removal
activities were transported off-site for disposal.
h
In March 2002, a 2,000-gallon diesel UST was removed from the site. The UST was located
about 120 feet from the former heating oil UST and had contained fuel for an emergency backup
power generator. During removal activities, groundwater was encountered at a depth of
approximately 12 feet below surface grade (bsg). Soil samples collected from the excavation and
pipeline trench contained 1.3 and 5.0 parts per million(ppm) of total petroleum hydrocarbons as
L diesel (TPH-D), respectively. A groundwater sample collected from the excavation contained
130 parts per billion (ppb) of TPH-D. Stockpiled soils were used to backfill the UST excavation
following removal activities.
1
lJ
0:SHARDUSW4-01 s8.aoc A Shaw Group Company
1
