• During UST removal activities, groundwater was encountered at a depth of 12 feet bs In order
P g
to collect a sufficient amount of groundwater for sampling purposes, the borings will be advanced
to a depth of 15 feet below grade
3.2 Soil Sampling
P 9
Soil borings will be cored continuously using a 48-inch long core sampler lined with clear, lexan
sample tubes Soil samples collected from the borings will be used for lithologic evaluation and
field screening of organic vapors Headspace screening for organic vapors will be accomplished
using a photoionization detector (PID) During the drilling, soil samples will be collected at five-
foot intervals from surface grade to the total depth of drilling and logged using the Unified Soil
Classification System by an IT field geologist, working under the supervision of a California
registered geologist Samples collected for laboratory analysis will be sealed with plastic caps
over Teflon film, taped, labeled, placed on ice and sent to a state-certified laboratory under chain
of custody documentation
' 3.3 Groundwater Sampling
P 9
• Upon completion of the individual borings, temporary PVC well casings will be placed in the
borings Five-foot lengths of 0 010-inch slot well screen will be placed in each boring with
I additional five-foot lengths of blank casing threaded to the top of the well screen Grab
groundwater samples will then be collected using a clean bailer, decontaminated between borings
(using a non-phosphate detergent followed by a methanol rinse and a final water rinse) Samples
' will be transferred from the bailer into the appropriate laboratory supplied containers The
groundwater samples will be labeled and placed in an insulated chest with ice, pending transport
' to the laboratory One field blank sample will be collected for quality assurance purposes
Sample collection, handling and transport will be documented using chain of custody protocols
Upon completion of the sampling and withdrawal of the temporary well casings, each borehole
' will be backfilled with a cement-bentonite grout and patched with cement
1
•
' CNCD17-24-0210 SHARMUSTi 02-0061 doc 3
