' GW&SW Monitoring Report
COE-WDR
Project No. 894.2
September 1,2011
• Volatile Dissolved Solids (VDS)
• Standard Minerals
o Ba, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Cl, SO4, Total Alkalinity, and Total Hardness
• Total Coliform Bacteria
' • Fecal Coliform Bacteria
Field measurements were recorded for the following parameters:
• Temperature
• pH
' • Specific Conductance (EC)
• Dissolved Oxygen(DO)
' 4.3 Surface Water Analytical Discussion
Historically, the water chemistry in the Stanislaus River does not change appreciably
between sampling stations R-1 and R-2. However, for the 3rd quarter groundwater
' monitoring event sampling point R-1 contained elevated levels of total coliform (2,320
MPN/100mQ. It is believed that this is a localized phenomenon that occurred upstream of
the facility. Sampling point R-2 was elevated but it is believed that the higher total coliform
values are a result of upstream conditions. Laboratory analytical results from sampling
points R-1 and R-2 are within historical range for fecal coliform.
' It should be noted that the groundwater samples collected from sampling station R-1 were
not analyzed for TDS, FDS, VDS and Total Alkalinity due to having an insufficient amount
of volume for analyses.
5.0 OBSERVATIONS & RECONEMENDATIONS
' Observations
Geological Technics Inc., taking into consideration the data obtained from the groundwater
' monitoring event, makes the following observations:
• Groundwater flow at the site is complex and is probably affected by pumping wells, the
Stanislaus River, and regional groundwater flow patterns. Overall groundwater flow
' trends to the southwest. For the 3rd quarter 2011 groundwater monitoring event,
groundwater gradient and bearing were not calculated due to the uneven nature of the
groundwater surface below the site, however, a groundwater contour map was produced
(Figure 3).
• Groundwater levels in MW-7 fluctuate greatly as compared to other monitoring wells at
the site. The groundwater fluctuations are possibly a result of less recharge from
neighboring areas since well MW-7 is almost always situated at the top of a water
mound. It is believed that the water found in well MW-7 is confined between two fine
' grained stiff silt units found at a depth of approximately 25 feet bgs and 46 feet.
