Field
equipment will be used to monitor the residual chlorine in the purge water, once chlorine is
no longer present, a sample will be collected and tested for Total Coliform(mpn).
To prevent the introduction of bacteria into the wells during regular groundwater
monitoring events, the following procedures will be used:
• The pressure cap and the top of the well will be sprayed with a Chlorox solution prior to
opening the well.
• The depth to water measuring tape will be sprayed with a Chlorox solution prior to it
being lowered into each well.
• The pressure cap will be sprayed with a Chlorox solution prior to closing each well after
sampling.
• Clean surgical gloves will be worn at all times.
The monitoring and disinfection event has been tentatively scheduled for December 15,
2000.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
