Fecal Coliform Bacteria was not reported above laboratory detection limits during the
September 2015 monitoring event. Coliform is ubiquitous in the environment and
has been detected intermittently in various wells at the WWTP.
4.0 SURFACE WATER MONITORING
' On September 17, 2015 Ground Zero personnel performed the surface water sampling at both
sampling stations (R-1 & R-2) along the north bank of the Stanislaus River. R-1 is located
' approximately 100 feet upstream of the railroad trestle and R-2 is approximately 100 feet
downstream of the westernmost boundary, as shown in Figure 2.
4.1 Surface Water Sample Analysis
' One (1) surface water sample collected from each surface water sampling station was
submitted to BC Laboratories for the following analyses:
• Five Day 20°C Biochemical Oxygen Demand by method SM 17-5210B
• Total Dissolved Solids by EPA method 160.1
• Fixed Dissolved Solids by EPA method 160.4
• Volatile Dissolved Solids by EPA method 160.4
• Chloride, Sulfate and Nitrate as Nitrogen by EPA method 300.0
• Total Alkalinity by method SM-2320B
• General minerals by EPA method 6010B, including barium, magnesium, sodium,
potassium and calcium
One (1) 100 mL sterile bottle preserved with sodium thiosulfate was collected from each
surface water sampling station and submitted to Far West Laboratories for the following
analyses:
' Total Coliform Bacteria
• Fecal Coliform Bacteria
t Field measurements were recorded for the following parameters:
• Temperature
pH
' EC
DO
4.2 Surface Water Analytical Discussion
A comparison of the two sets of analytical results from R-1 and R-2 historically shows that
' river chemistry continues to remain very similar between the two locations. A review of
nitrate concentrations in the surface water and groundwater monitoring wells suggests the
WWTP is not impacting the Stanislaus River. Analytical data are summarized in Table 2.
' Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. 5
894 3rd QMR 15
