 • 3/9y
Z1 INC
After removal of all liquid, the tank will have approximately 4 or 5 holes cut in the top by
a concrete saw. Clean, dry, fill sand will be placed into the tank until it is completely
backfilled. After backfilling, the former tank will have its surface repaired to prevent
rainwater from entering it in the future. The rest of the former tank will be left in place.
Task 3-Soil Aeration and Landfarming Operation
Soil aeration and landfarming will be utilized to remediate the volatile and heavy fraction
hydrocarbon impacted soil.
This Remedial Action Plan assumes that volatile hydrocarbon and chlorinated
hydrocarbon compound concentrations will be low enough (under 100 ppm) to meet all
permitting criteria for VAD requirements for on-site aeration of the volatile fraction.
Heavy fraction hydrocarbon stockpiled soil will be remediated by landfarming.
During this period the stockpiled soil will be inspected on a weekly schedule to insure
stability and integrity of the pads. The stockpiled soil will be watered to keep moisture
content at optimum levels. Tillage of the soil will be made with a tractor or handheld 10"
deep disc which will aerate the soil and allow maximum bacterial action. Horse or
chicken manure will be applied as appropriate to increase nitrate levels in the soil and
enhance the bacterial action.
Periodic samples will be taken to monitor the progress of bacterial degradation of the
hydrocarbons. Target goals for reduction of TPH-G are set at non-detection levels.
Target goals for reduction of TPH-D are set at 100 parts per million.
Task 4-Final Closure Report
The final report will summarize all technical aspects of the operation and be certified by
a California State Certified Engineering Geologist and submitted to SJCLHD for approval.
Page 6
