Forkas CONFIDENTIAL
Water/Wastewater Superintendent
Public Works Department
Lodi, California 95242
LODI SEWER INVESTIGATION RESULTS
Dear Mr. Forkas:
The Department of Toxic Substances Control (Department) has
received laboratory analytical results for the sewer sampling
investigation conducted on November 11, 1993 to determine the
source(s) of trichloroethylene (TCE) contamination. Attachment A.
shows the sampling locations and attachment B summarizes the
analytical results.
Significant concentrations of 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane
(1, 1, 1-TCA) were detected in sewer samples collected at manholes
I1909 and I1936 of the sanitary sewer line. At I1909, the
ambient sample was .found to contain 1, 1, 1-TCA of 453 parts per
billion (ppb) , and the flush sample was found to contain 8980
ppb. At I1936, the ambient sample was found to contain 1, 1, 1-TCA
of 342 ppb and the flush sample was found to contain 354 ppb.
Because Lustre-Cal Nameplate Incorporated (Lustre-Cal) is
the company immediately upgradient of manhole I1909 and has been
found to use 1, 1, 1-TCA on-site, the Department believes that
Lustre-Cal has been discharging wastewater containing significant
amount of 1, 1, 1-TCA to the City sanitary sewer lines. Manhole
I1936 is downgradient of manhole I1909.
Please review this information and contact the Department
with your comments regarding the sewer sampling investigation.
Additionally, the Department requests to be notified of any
,j actions that the City may take.
Iran
IY3&014
n
to,
P,iamd o.R. ,IM Paps,
