VZ1 INC.
- 4.0 PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
The results of the TMG (1992) field and laboratory investigation conducted are
summarized below. Each of the five areas of the LCN site, A to D and the Concrete Tank
site are discussed in the following respective subsections. Analytical results from this
previous work is tabulated in Appendix 1.
4.1 Area "A"
Four boring were drilled and sampled in Area "A". Boring Locations are shown on
Exhibits 2 and 8. Borings A-2, A-3, and A-4 were drilled to a total depth of 6.5 feet.
Samples were obtained for laboratory analysis from depths of two and five feet. Boring
A-1 was drilled to a total depth of 16.5 feet with samples obtained from depths of
approximately 2 feet, 5 feet, 10 feet, and 15 feet. This boring was advanced past the
planned depth of 5 feet because field OVA/FID readings were reported as greater than
zero at five feet. Logs of borings for Area "A" are included in Appendix 1.
Soils encountered in the borings from Area "A" consisted primarily of very fine grained,
yellow-tan silty sand. Laboratory results from Area "A" samples are included on Tables
1 through 4 (Appendix 1). No hydrocarbons or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) were
reportedly detected from any sample collected from Area"A" with the exception of Boring
A-2 at a depth of 2 feet where petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel were reported as a
concentration of 36 parts per million (ppm) and total petroleum hydrocarbons were
reported at a concentration of 380 ppm.
4.2 Area "B"
One boring was drilled through the gravel sump in Area "B". The location of this boring
is shown on Exhibit 2. The bottom of the gravel was encountered at a depth of five feet,
12270010,013 Page 10
