Sites 2 and 3 are located on the same parcel, but are approximately 750 feet
apart so they are two separate areas of investigation.
Soil and groundwater samples collected at Site 2 revealed no detectable evidence of contamination.
PHS/EHD is not requiring further investigation of this area at this time. Should contamination be
discovered at this location in the future, PHS/EHD must be notified.
Contamination was evidenced in groundwater and soil samples at Site 3. Further investigation of this area
to define the vertical and lateral extent of the contamination is required. Installation of a minimum of three
groundwater monitoring wells(MWs) is required to evaluate and determine the gradient of the
groundwater. Locate MWs close to the contamination source when proposing the initial work.
Groundwater should be sampled on a quarterly basis and analyzed for Benzene,Toluene,Xylene,
Ethylbenzene(BTXE)using EPA method 8020,Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPHg)using
EPA Method 8015m,and five Oxygenates using EPA Method 8260(see attached Oxygenate letter).
Conduct a survey of domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial and any other wells within a 2,000 foot
radius of this site. Contact the Department of Water Resources, municipal suppliers and nearby industries.
In addition, perform a physical search of the area to identify any wells. Show locations of all wells, submit
construction details(if available)and evaluate the influence of pumping with respect to the migration of the
contamination. Identify and discuss any public or environmental health threats and/or impacts regarding
contaminant migration.
Submit the Work Plan to PHS/EHD by January 10, 1999.
