' APPENDIX B <br /> PROTOCOL FOR ADVANCING, SAMPLING, AND BACKFILLING <br /> OF SOIL BORINGS <br />' 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br />' This protocol describes the procedures to be followed during the advancing and logging of soil <br /> borings. The procedures presented herein are intended to be of a general use. As the work <br /> progresses and, if warranted, appropriate revisions will be made and approved in writing by the <br /> ' project manager. <br /> ' 2.0 ADVANCING <br /> The soil borings will be advanced using the Geoprobe direct-push method. The specific depths <br /> ' of the soil borings are presented in the workplan. The B&R field geologist or engineer will <br /> specify to the ng operator the maximum penetration rate, the depth of soil sample collection, <br /> method of sample retrieval, and other matters pertaining to the satisfactory completion of the <br /> borings. All unused soil samples and fluids generated during advancement and sampling of soil <br /> borings will be containenzed and stored or disposed of in accordance with appropriate legal <br /> requirements. <br /> The tool stung, hoses, and other components in which fluids and cuttings circulate, drive <br /> samplers, and probe tips will be thoroughly steam cleaned before and after installing each <br /> ' boring.
