Two common ground-water contaminants in San Joaquin County are nitrate and
dibromochloropropane (DBCP). Live Oak reviewed the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department's maps of Nitrate — Land Use Data and DBCP— Land
Use Data dated February 20, 2019. According to the nitrate map (Plate 8), four wells
within a one-mile radius of the subject Site have been tested for nitrate. Nitrate was
detected in one well at a concentration between 0.1 and 5.0 mg/L-N; no nitrate was
detected in the remaining three wells. According to the DBCP map, one well within a
one-mile radius of the Site was tested for DBCP (Plate 9); no DBCP was detected. The
Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) set by the US EPA for nitrate is 10 mg/L-N; the
MCL for DBCP is 0.2 tg/L.
The surrounding area consists of agricultural land with occasional rural residences and
agricultural buildings.
On-Site Wells
Three wells are currently located on the Site. Four well permits were identified for the
Site addresses from among the files of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department.
• July 1996 permit for new pump (12650). Based on the included sketch, this
permit appears to refer to a different property located approximately one-half mile
east of the Site.
• May 2007 permit for new domestic (replacement) well (12601). The permit
indicates that the well had a depth of 250 feet; its grout seal was placed at 100
feet. The well is located 40 feet west of the existing well. A septic system is also
depicted to the east of the house.
• January 2008 permit for pump replacement at domestic well (12650). The permit
appears to refer to the new domestic well by the house
• January 2008 permit for new pump at domestic well (12650). The permit
appears to refer to the well on the far western side of the Site, beyond the levee
road.
These permits have been included in Appendix 4.
Water Sample
Live Oak collected a water sample from the main domestic well on the Site on March
16, 2020. The sample was analyzed for nitrate and dibromochloropropane (DBCP) per
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department policy.
LOGE 20-12 Page 4
