As collectively agreed at our
meeting, the primary revision to the Work plans is that collection of soil samples for petroleum
hydrocarbon compound (PHC)analysis will not be llmitad to the vadose zone, but may be colkcbed
from:below the water table as well. Your rational was that primarily due to the elevated water table,
the contaminants might have vefticaly migrated to the subsuface sols below the groundwater table.
The foliowing descnl>es the amended procedures for field investigations at each of the subject sites.
As described in the Work Plans, continuous core samples will be collected utL-dng the
Geopr, obe dim-push method in the initial boring drilled at each VST site- Thee oore willi be collected
for the purpose of charactertion of subsurface lithokM, PHC impact, and depth to groundwater
at the UST site. The continuous core samples will be collected: in dear plastic or acryk liners,
labeled, capped, and temporarily stared in ice chests on site. Soil cores wM be examined for visual
indications of discdoration and PHC odor, and screened with a portable photoionization detector for
the presence of organic vzpors. Based on soil-ane examination,a minimum of two soil samples,
spaced 5-feet apart, will be selected from the continuous core and submitted to the laboratory for
analysis of PHCs, even if the selected samples are collected from below the water table. Soil
samples wM be analyzed fir the constituents descried in Section 3.2 of the Work Plans.
Examination of the core samples will provide target locations for correction of a minimum of two soil
samples and one groundwater sample In each of the remaining borings at each site.
GENERAL OFFICE: 2201 W. WASHINGTON ST., STOCKTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
