WORK PLAN FOR
INITIAL SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION OF
PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS
SITE NO. 1 (SITE CODE 1282)
PORT OF STOCKTON
Near Port Roads B and 2
Stockton, San Joaquin County, California
w.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This work plan has been prepared by Boyajian & Ross, Inc. (B&R) at the request of Mr. Jay
Jahangiri, Director of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs of the Port of Stockton (Port).
The Port removed an underground storage tank (UST) at this site (Figure 1) on April 28, 1993.
Analyses of a soil sample collected from beneath the tank indicated detectable levels of
petroleum hydrocarbon compounds (PHCs). Based on these findings, a "Notice of
Responsibility" was issued to the Port by San Joaquin County Public Health Service,
Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) on January 15, 1998. The letter accompanying
the Notice requested a work plan to investigate the lateral and vertical extent of contamination
at the site. This work plan is in response.10 that request.
2.0 SITE BACKGROUND
This section presents the site description, summarizes previous site characterization work, and
briefly summarizes the geologic and hydrologic characteristics of the site. Copies of pertinent
background documents, such as the "Notice of Responsibility," "Application for Permit to
Close," PHS/EHD "Tank Inspection Report," the tank removal contractor's notes, and the
analytical laboratory results, are included in Appendix A.
. 2.1 SITE DESCREMON
The site is located in the northwest portion of the Port of Stockton complex. The site is
identified by PHS/EHD as "Site Code 1282." Figure 2 shows that the site is between
warehouses A and G, just southwest of the intersections of Port Roads B and 2. The site had
a 600-gallon steel tank(PHS/EHD ID#39-1282-03), which, according to the "Application for
 1
961 MS1 UST1MV.WPN
V
BOYAJIAN & ROSS, INC.
Environmental Scientists & Engineers
