Sharpe -4- 19 September 1984
Subsequent to the meeting the State again reviewed the
Phase I and II analytical data . Although only low
levels of 602 analytes were detected not all mon-
itoring wells were sampled and analyzed using Method
602 at any one time . Because of this the State
believes that EPA Method 602 should be included in all
future sample analyses until sufficient data is
collected for a complete assessment.
Sharpe will prepare an Off-post Monitoring Plan and
submit it for State review by 1 October 1984 .
III. Plume Definiyion Wells
A. South Bslloon Area
Sharpe has made an estimate of the distance con-
tamination has moved along a plume centerline, which
was presumably drawn based on past ground water
gradier. t data . Using this estimate Sharpe has
selecte:d four locations for placement of monitoring
wells t.o define the off-post plume. Different depth
wells wrill be drilled at each location . Sharpe
believes that the proposed wells are appropriately
located_ for initial plume definition ; but further
wells mazy be necessary.
Board -taff pointed out that no estimate of the
lateral or vertical extent of pollutants had been made
making :tet difficult to accurately locate wells. Staff
believe t--s that all the existing analytical data should
be used to predict the plume ' s present location in
three diimensions.
Sharpe r-equested the State to supply them with such an
analysis, but responded that the well locations may be
immater_i.al due to the fact that Mr. Lewis, the leasee
of the _land west of the Depot, has denied permission
to dril_1 any wells on his property (which is leased
from Souathern Pacific Land Company) .
The Statte will perform a plume analysis and contact
Mr. Lewtis . The State will then propose areas in which
to dri1L plume definition wells.
