NORCAICOONSULTANTS, INC .
• April 20, 2000
Mr. Tim Berger
Versar, Inc.
7844 Madison Avenue, Suite 167
Fair Oaks, CA 95628
Subject: Geophysical Investigation
Stockton Armory
Dear Mr. Berger:
This letter presents the findings of a geophysical investigation performed on portions of the
California National Guard Stockton Armory in Stockton, California. Geophysicist David Bissiri
conducted the field investigation on April 5, 2000.
SITE DESCRIPTIONS
The Stockton Armory is southeast of the intersection of Airport and Stimson Boulevards in
Stockton, California. Two areas were investigated: The first, and primary, investigation area is
• referred to as the "Vehicle Storage Yard" in this report and was comprised of an approximately
180- by 130-foot portion of a dirt and gravel parking lot used for service and storage of military
vehicles. A secondary area was added to the above original scope at the end of the field day at
the request of Versar field personnel. This secondary area was a portion of an asphalt parking
lot behind the CSMS area and is referred to as the "CSMS Area". A brief site description and
summary of the findings for this secondary area are addressed separately at the end of this
report.
The investigation boundary of the Vehicle Storage Yard area, as shown on Plate 1, was
established by Versar personnel. The notable cultural features in or near the Vehicle Storage
Yard area include a chain link fence along the eastern and southern boundaries; three new
lightpole foundations (sans light poles); and assorted trailers and trucks along the northern and
southern boundaries.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the investigation in the Vehicle Storage Yard was to determine possible locations
of suspected buried canisters of tear gas. The tear gas canisters are reportedly no larger than
a 55-gallon drum.
METHODOLOGY
We performed the geophysical investigation of the Vehicle Storage Yard area using vertical
• magnetic gradient(VMG), metal detection(MD), and ground penetrating radar(GPR)techniques.
The CSMS area was investigated with MD and GPR techniques. Detailed descriptions of these
techniques, the geophysical instrumentation, and the data interpretation procedures we used are
provided in Appendix "A"
1350 INDUSTRIAL AVENUE, SUITE A•PETALUMA.
