Appropriate
' chain of custody forms were filled out and accompanied the samples
to the lab. Completed chain of custody forms are provided in
Appendix B.
' 3.8 Tank Excavation Backfill
1 Mr. Tom Deen authorized the filling of the excavation with clean
fill dirt and asked that the AT&SF office in Stockton be contacted to
' determine if they had any fill dirt available. Mr. D. L. Knephoff,
AT&SF, was contacted but he was unable to locate suitable soil for
' the site.
Approximately 96 cubic yards of clean backfill were brought to
' the site by Erickson, Inc. The excavation was filled and the backfill
material was recompacted to relative compaction of 90 per cent.
' The site was brought to grade to the satisfaction of the adjacent
property owners, Mr. Al Clark and Mr. Lanny R. Williams. Fences were
replaced around the site. Valley Welding Supply's site was clean and
reestablished to its original condition, to the satisfaction of Mr. Al
Clark.
4.0 RESULTS
Once the steel tanks at the Scotts Avenue site were clear of the
excavation, the tank exteriors were cleaned and visually inspected.
Several large holes, 1 to 10 inches in diameter, were observed in the
ends and upper half of the tanks. Numerous smaller holes were noted
in the lower half of the tanks. In addition, obvious product staining
was evident on tank exteriors.
6
