Mr . David L. Brent -2- July 13 , 1988
The tests will allow us to determine what flow rates may be sus-
tained and what water removal rates are required. We will also
gather information about carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon levels in
the vent gas under sustained high flow conditions, and may be
able to measure the reach of the well . All of this information
is needed to design a continuous test at the higher vacuums and
determine if that test would be useful.
If the eight-hour high vacuum tests indicate venting may be fea-
sible at Tracy, the longer term high vacuum testing (and water
removal) may be proposed. In that case, we would submit a
specific proposal and ask for an appropriate extension to the
approved test period.
The eight-hour tests will be run during the daytime with Chevron
personnel onsite at all times, and all water removed from the
well will be treated at a Chevron facility. (We anticipate
0 . 5-10 gpm of water will be removed during each test. ) We will
review with the City of Tracy our plans for additional equipment
for the test, and intend to carry out the tests within the con-
ditions specified in our existing permits.
We plan to run the eight„-hour tests in late July, and we intend
for this letter to serve as a formal addition to our work plan.
If you have any questions about the testing or water removal,
please contact me at ( 415) 620-3171 .
Very truly yours,
D.
