To Alden Park Homeowner -2- December 2, 1987
The two technologies we have selected are liquid oil recovery via pumping and in
situ (in place) b!oventing which speeds up the natural biodegradation of the oil. We
will advise you how successful these field tests are in future newsletters. In
addition, we plan to permanently remove surface oil seeps and plant several new
trees in Alden Park. Our studies to date suggest that the combination of the
concrete floor and oily dirt may be restricting the growth of some trees in the
park. Our scientists have designed special containers for planting the trees to
solve these potential problems.
Future Alden Park Activities
Over the next severa! months, you will see various activities in and around the
park. We will continue to work closely with the city and agencies to obtain
approvals and permits to perform the work. These activities include:
1) Excavation of surface oil seeps.
2) Planting of six trees in special containers in Alden Park.
3) A liquid oil pumping field test in the park. You will see a
small trailer which contains the pumping equipment in the
northeast corner of the park for one to two weeks.
4) A bioventing field test which will be conducted in the
northern area of the park. This test will last up to ten weeks,
then the temporary facilities will be removed.
Neighborhood Slide Show Presentations
We have prepared a slide show presentation detailing the above information which
we will show to interested neighborhoods. If you and your neighbors would like for
us to come to one of your homes to make this presentation, please call me collect
at (415) 894-9320 to arrange a time. Also, don't hesitate to call collect anytime
you have any questions.
Please have a safe and happy holiday season!
Very truly yours,
14
Mary E.
