Lk4l KLEINFELDER'
File No. 20-3937-01
September 3, 1996
L
ti EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
L This is a revised report of Kleinfelder's limited soil and groundwater assessment conducted on
p
the proposed Schaeffer Industries facility at 1265 North Shaw Road in Stockton, California
L (APN # 143-270-041). Mr. Clark Taylor of the Schaeffer Industries retained Kleinfelder to
conduct the assessment in accordance with our proposal dated June 21, 1996, and our
subsequent additional authorization dated July 29, 1996.
On July 22 to July 24, 1996, four soil borings were advanced on site and a monitoring well was
subsequently constructed in each boring. During our field work, Kleinfelder collected a total of
thirty-six (36) soil samples from three (3) soil borings. Nineteen of the 36 samples were
subsequently analyzed based on field indications and the approved scope of work. Groundwater
samples were collected from the three monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3) and
submitted for analyses. The nineteen soil samples and three groundwater samples were
analyzed for the following analytes:
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) including Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene,
Xylenes (13TEX) by EPA Method 8260:
0 Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Referenced to Gasoline in the approximately
C6 to C,Zcarbon range (TPH-G) by EPA Method 8015M/5030
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (Fuel Fingerprint) in the approximately C8 to
Cz; carbon range by EPA Method 8015M/3550
• Sulfate by EPA Method 375.4
A groundwater gradient and direction was calculated based on depth-to-water data collected
on July 30, 1996, by Kleinfelder representatives and by data collected during a survey by our
firm on August 20, 1996. The groundwater flow direction is estimated to be towards the
southwest at a relatively flat gradient of 0.003 ft/ft. In areas of flat groundwater gradients
such as this site, groundwater flow directions may significantly fluctuate due to rainfall,
groundwater recharge, groundwater pumping, etc.... Therefore, changes in groundwater flow
directions may vary at this site with time.
Four (4) additional surface soil samples were obtained from the northern portion of the site for
asbestos analysis.
Based on the data obtained during our assessment, the following conclusions and
recommendations have been formulated:
20-3937-01/MR960189 Page 1 of 18 01996.
