KLEINFELDER
File No. 20-3937-01
September 3, 1996
6.3 GROUNDWATER ASSESSMENT
Ing eneral concentrations of the hydrocarbons analyzed in the 62 samples tested ranged as
follows:
• TPH-G IND (<50 pg/l)]
• Benzene [ND (<0.50 erg/1)]
• Toluene [ND (<0.50 pg/1)]
• Ethylbenzene [ND (<0.50 pg/1)]
• Total Xylenes [ND (<0.50 pg/1)]
• UEH IND (<50 pg/1) to 56 pg/l]
• TPH-K [ND (<50 pg/1)]
' TPH-D [ND (<50 pg/l)]
• TPH-LO [ND (<250 pg/1)]
• TPH-JP4 [ND (<50 pg/l)]
• TPH-JP5 [ND (<50 pg/l)]
• 1,2-Dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) [ND (<2 pg/1)]
• l,1-Dichloroethylene [ND (<2 [cg/l)]
• Other L--PA 8260 Compounds [ND]
• Sulfate [28 mg/l to 40 nig/11
Sulfate was detected in the three groundwater samples obtained in concentrations ranging
from 28 - 40 mg/l. There is no tiiaximum contaminant level (MCL) expressed in Title 22 of
the California Code of Regulations (22CCR). However, there are Secondary MCLS expressed
in 22CCR §64449. The secondary MCLs (SMCLs) are 250 mg/I, recommended; 500 mg/l,
upper; and 600 mg/l, short term. Therefore, these sulfate concentrations do not appear to be
of concern. Additionally, the State of California Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB) correspondence regarding the U.S. Chemical Site indicated that groundwater had
not been affected by sulfate at the U.S. Chemical site. Kleinfelder would recommend no
further investigation or clean-up related to the sulfates pending RWQCB and/or PHS/EHD
concurrence (as appropriate). Therefore, Kleinfelder would recommend no further
investigation or clean-up related to the sulfates. However, regulatory concurrence should be
obtained from either the RWQCB and/or the PHS/EHD.
L
i 20-3937-01/MR960189 Page 15 of I8 01996, Kleinfelder, Inc.
