Any time we plan on using graphite pre -preg material on large parts , we will be
conducting analytical testing to determine if the graphite pre -preg waste is indeed
hazardous . We will continue using the ply cutter to minimize waste .
We will continue with annual Hazardous Waste Management training to inform
employees about the proper procedures for managing hazardous waste .
MULTIMEDIA EFFECTS
None of the selected source reduction measures ( 1 operational improvement, 1
production process change and 1 administrative step) will transfer the waste load from
one environmental medium (air, land , or water) to another.
REJECTED MEASURES
The non-chromated process Phosphoric Acid Deox (PAD) , which was discussed in the
1990 plan, was again eliminated because it was not widely accepted by many of our
current customers and it would not be economically feasible to install two separate
processes .
Any investigation of non- chromated alternatives for the conversion coating process was
also dismissed . There are currently no non- chromated conversion coatings that meet our
customer specifications and it is unlikely that one will be available for a number of years .
We will continue using the gutters on the south side of the cleaning center tanks to
capture overspray and reduce the amount on the pit floor and reduce the amount of
wastewater requiring treatment in the chromium treatment system . Unfortunately , this
increases the amount of phosphoric acid solution needing disposal since this tank is
unheated .
NUMERICAL GOALS
If there are new projects requiring the use of large amounts of graphite pre-preg which
generate trimmings , plycutter waste , and expired material and analytical results indicate
the material is non-hazardous , Applied Aerospace should realize a 10-20 reduction in the
amount of that is disposed of by the end of 2019 as long as there isn ' t a significant
increase in new projects .
TECHNICAL CERTIFICATION STATEMENT
I certify this Source Reduction Evaluation, Review and Plan meets all of the following
requirements :
( 1 ) The review and plan addresses each hazardous waste stream identified
pursuant to section 67100 . 5 (h) , Title 22 of the California Code of
Regulations .
F
r
