2.0 Project History
Previous Initial Site Assessments (ISA),the Regional Water Quality Control Board's Leaking
Underground Storage Tank Information System(LUSTIS) list, and all available data from the
VISTA Information Solutions Inc. database, have been reviewed to identify properties with
hazardous waste concerns (Caltrans, 2002). The ISA identified the property as a former service
station. Further research indicated that the service station was put out of business after a vehicle
crashed into the pump island. Aerial photographs and topographic maps have also been
reviewed to confirm past land use. According to the investigation, the tanks beneath the pump
island were removed, but that there is a possibility that a waste oil tank still remains. No records
of a tank removal have been found. All information gathered suggest a significant hazardous
waste concern within the project limits.
A geophysical investigation has been conducted at the site. The results of this investigation
suggest that the tanks beneath the pump island were removed, but that there is a possibility for a
waste oil tank to be present(Caltrans, 2002).
An investigation was conducted at the site on March 13, 2002 by IT. Direct push drilling and
sampling methods were employed. Soil samples were collected from each boring. Groundwater
samples could not be obtained due to refusal at depths ranging from 7.9 to 9.1 meters(26 to 30
feet).
SAGDP-N.IrnncfpllProjecrsl8318347601wkpbi&hsplwp&hsp HSAISR 120 HSA wp.doc 2-1
4/19/0?
