30 No,,ember 20010
AGF.-NC Pro iect No. 99-0645,
Page 2 o f")
2.2. INTERIM SOIL REMEDIATION
On 21 March 2000, 195 Elletric tons of impacted soil was excavated fi-om the site by AGI,. utiliz1110
an excavator outfitted with a 2.45 cubic-vard bucket. Clean backfill material used durin« the
backfilling of the initial UST excavation was excavated and stockpiled on-site. Followino the
removal ofthe clean backfill material, the excavation was enlarged and deepened to an approximate
depth of 22 feet bsg. Oil 22 March 2000 the excavated soil was transported fi-om the site and
disposed at Forward Landfill.
TPH-g was detected in samples F-1. WW, F'W and NW at 6.0 mg/kg. 23,000 mo'k4g. 29 nlog kg and
32 mg/kg. respectively. TPI-I-g was not detected in sample SW.
Elevated concentrations of BTE&X were detected in sample WW at concentrations ranginLg firom
56 mgi'kg of benzene to 2,900 mg/kg of xvlenes. Samples F-1. FW and NW also contained B"FI.`&X
at concentrations rangino from below detectable limits (benzene in sample NW) to 4.1 mg/kg of
xvlenes in sample EW. BTE&X compounds were not detected in sample SW.
Elevated concentrations of MTBE: were detected in samples F-1. WW and EW at concentrations of
19.(}00 a.glkg. 140.000 ug/kg and 15,0004glkg, respectively. MTBE was also detected in samples
SW and NW at 28 ,ug/kg and 91 p-glk,,, respectively. `fAMT: was only detected in sample WW at
9.200 ug°/k`g and TBA was only reported in samples F-I and NW at 6,100 cog/k4g and 100 ,.cg/kg_
respectively.
The composite(] stockpile soil samples contained 'I"PI-I-o at concentrations ranging_ from l.900 ntgIku,
to 2.100 mglkg. BTE&X compounds ranged from below detectable limits ( benzene: in sample SI'A-
D) to 280 mg/kg (xylenes in sample SPII-L). MTBE. TAME and TBA were detected as hi,h as
3,000 240 ug/keg and 3,500 kg, respectively, in the stockpile soil samples. Analytical
resuits of soil samples are summarized on 'fable 1.
AGE calculated that approximately 126 gallons of gasoline were removed in the soil excavated
during the interim remediation on the site.
The highest concentrations of petroleu111 hvdrocarbons compounds were detected in samples
collected front the western wall of' the former excavation. Lower concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline were also detected in the floor sample and samples collected from the north
and west sidevalls. Fuel oxvgc.natcs, including MTBE, "FAVIF and TBA were detected in all
samples.
(11.1111ced(:c41VIINirunIII Oak tal, luc.
