1.0 Introduction <br /> This report presents the results of the soil investigation conducted along State Route (SR) 120 in <br /> Manteca, San Joaquin County, California(Figure 1). The investigation was conducted by IT <br /> Corporation(IT)in February 2001. This investigation was conducted at the request and <br /> authorization of Mr. Michael Robinson of the California Department of Transportation(Caltrans) <br /> under Task Order No. 10-OA75OK-5U, Expenditure Authorization No. 10-OA750K. The <br /> investigation was conducted for soil characterization prior to Caltrans' modification of the <br /> intersection of State Route 120 and Austin Road. <br /> 1.1 Project Description <br /> The site comprises the unpaved portions of the shoulders of SR 120 between post miles (PM) <br /> MER-120 PM 6.7/7.0 and nearby portions of Austin Road. Unpaved shoulder areas of SR 120 <br /> and Austin Road will be affected by construction activities. State Route 120 within the limits of <br /> the proposed project is a three-lane highway(two lanes for traffic and one for turning). <br /> Modifications to the intersection of SR 120 and Austin Road will consist of installation of traffic <br /> signals, corner corrections, and widening SR 120 from three to five lanes. Retail gasoline <br /> stations may have been present on one or more of the corners of the intersection. <br /> IT is not aware of any previous environmental investigative work conducted within the project <br /> area. <br /> 1.2 Project Objectives <br /> The objectives of this investigation were to evaluate the presence and concentration of lead in <br /> shallow soil and petroleum hydrocarbons within groundwater in the work area prior to the <br /> implementation of improvement activities proposed by Caltrans. <br /> SnCDP-N.•IrnncjpllProjectsl8218212641Repon1120 Austin report.doc <br /> 5121/01 <br />
