Health and Safety Plan for <br /> Delineation and Destruction of Well B-1 <br /> Workers should be aware of signs and symptoms of hypothermia and frostbite, as well as first <br /> aid for these conditions. <br /> Although extreme cold weather conditions are not expected or likely, workers should be aware <br /> of several basic cold weather medical conditions, as well as first aid treatments for such <br /> conditions. Should cold temperatures be encountered, workers shall wear appropriate garments, <br /> especially head and foot protection. <br /> Hypothermia <br /> Symptoms and Signs Response <br /> • Shivering,exhaustion Move worker to a warm,dry area. Remove any wet clothing. <br /> • Confusion,fumbling hands Warm the center of the body first then move outward. If the <br /> • Memory loss,slurred speech worker is conscious,administer warm beverages.Seek <br /> • Drowsiness immediate medical attention. <br /> • Pale and cold skin <br /> • Slowed breathing or heart rate <br /> • Slowing of pace,drowsiness,fatigue <br /> • Stumbling <br /> • Irrationality, poor judgment <br /> • Hallucinations <br /> • Blueness of skin <br /> • Dilation of pupils <br /> • Decreased heart and respiration <br /> Frostbite <br /> Symptoms and Signs Response <br /> • White or grayish-yellow skin area Move worker to a warm,dry area. Do not allow the worker to <br /> • Skin that feels unusually firm or waxy walk on or use parts of the body that may be frostbitten. <br /> • Numbness Immerse the affected area in warm water or warm with body <br /> heat.Seek immediate medical attention. <br /> Lightning/Thunder Storms <br /> In the event of thunderstorm, field operations will cease at the first sign of a thunderstorm and <br /> will not commence until 30 minutes have passed since the last occurrence of lightning or <br /> thunder.
