Health and Safety Plan for
Delineation and Destruction of Well B-1
7 DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES
Decontamination procedures will be performed before leaving the work areas as part of the
system for preventing or reducing the physical transfer of impacted materials from the project
area. Physical decontamination procedures may include removing PPE, gloves, boots, brushing,
vacuuming, washing with detergent, neutralizing agents, etc. Primary decontamination will take
place in the Contamination Reduction Area. All PPE that has been removed in the Contaminant
Reduction Area will be placed in a secured 55-gallon drum. In the Contamination Reduction
Area, equipment and PPE may be washed with water and/or soap. Secondary decontamination, if
required, will take place at portable hand washing facilities in the Support Area. All personnel
will wash their hands before eating and after work.
Personnel decontamination procedures should be performed in the following sequence:
• If gross contamination is obvious, physically remove contamination by brushing,
scraping, etc., prior to leaving the Exclusion Area;
• Transfer the equipment to the Contamination Reduction Area for subsequent chemical
decontamination or disposal;
• In the Contamination Reduction Area, remove any outer disposable PPE and discard into
the appropriate disposal drum; and
• In the Support Area, thoroughly wash hands and face.
10275-4
D U D E K 23 June 2017
