07 March 2002
AGE-NC Project No 99-0645
42 HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
A total of twenty-eight soil samples were analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d, BTEX and MTBE by EPA
Methods 8015 Modified and 8020, respectively Twenty-four soil samples were analyzed for the
suite of nine fuel additives by EPA Method 8260 Modified
' TPH-g was detected in three soil samples from boring B1 and five samples from boring B5
The highest concentration of TPH-g (15,000 mg/kg) was detected in the soil sample from
boring B5 at ten feet bsg Low concentrations of TPH-g, at or below 20 milligram per
' kilogram (mg/kg), were detected in the other impacted soil samples
• TPH-g was not detected In soil samples collected at or below the ground water table
' TPH-d was detected in five soil samples from boring B1 and three samples from boring B5
The highest concentration of TPH-d (9,100 mg/kg) was detected in the soil sample from
boring B5 at ten feet bsg Low concentrations of TPH-d,at or below 12 mg/kg,were detected
' in the other impacted soil samples
• TPH-d was detected in one soil sample collected at or below the water table
' BTEX compounds were detected in eleven of the soil samples analyzed The highest
concentration of a BTEX compound detected was in the soil sample collected from boring
B5 at 10 feet (xylene 1,700 mg/kg) BTEX compounds were detected in the remaining soil
samples at concentrations at or below 3 9 mg/kg The greatest concentrations of BTEX
compounds detected were generally in soil samples collected from boring B5
1 BTEX compounds were not detected in the soil samples collected at or below the ground
water table
• MTBE was detected in fifteen of the soil samples analyzed MTBE concentrations detected
in soil from borings B I and B5 at 30 feet bsg and BI and B6 at 40 feet contained the highest
concentrations detected at the site The highest single concentration of MTBE was detected
in sample 135-30 at 18,000 micrograms per kilogram (µg/kg)
• The concentrations of MTBE detected former UST area decreased with depth and were not
detectable at 80 feet bsg
• TAME and TBA were detected in one soil sample, collected at 15 feet bsg from boring B5,
at 160 and 4,700 µg/kg, respectively
• A cross section of Impacted soil is depicted In Figure 4
' Laboratory results of soil samples analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons are summarized in Tables 1
. and 2 The laboratory reports (MAI Laboratory ID 81271 to 81297), quality assurance and quality
control (QA/QC) reports and chains-of-custody are Included In Appendix C
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
