The modern workplace produces any <br /> number of hazardous waste items; all of which must be stored safely and <br /> properly until they hauled off site for final disposal. <br /> The goal of this training is to reduce or eliminate on the job accidents and <br /> injuries caused by working with hazardous waste. To minimize the dangers <br /> in the work place follow these precautions: <br /> o Always store place hazardous waste in the hazardous waste <br /> accumulation area. <br /> o Always place hazardous waste in the container specifically labeled for <br /> that hazardous waste. <br /> o Always ensure empty containers in the hazardous waste accumulation <br /> area are marked as containers as "empty" <br /> o Always ensure that the start date in written in on the 90 day hazardous <br /> label whenever the first item is place into the container. Also remember to <br /> remove the "empty" label, as the container is no longer empty. <br /> o Always ensure that every container in the hazardous waste accumulation <br /> area is clearly marked with a 90-day hazardous label, 11-month universal <br /> waste label or an "empty" label. <br /> o Always ensure that every container lid is closed except when adding <br /> hazardous material or inspecting the container. <br /> o Always smoke in the designated smoking area; never smoke in the <br /> hazardous waste accumulation area. <br /> o Always wash your hands before eating and smoking whenever you have <br /> been working with hazardous waste. Never eat or drink in the hazardous <br /> waste accumulation area. <br /> o Always use the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) with working <br /> with or around hazardous waste. <br /> Post this sheet on the Safety Bulletin Board <br />
