KLEINFELDER
FINDINGS
Based on the field and laboratory investigations as well as proposed plans for the property,
Kleinfelder has the Following findings and recommendations:
1. The soil and water chemical analysis results of the December 1996, yielded only 0.51 µg/L
toluene in the groundwater sample from Boring 2-2 (the former tank locations). The
September 8 and 9, 1997, sampling of boring 2-2A and 2-213 revealed no hydrocarbons. The
resampling suggests that the trace level detected in the one groundwater sample obtained in
December 1996 may have been field or laboratory cross contamination. This is further
supported by the lack of any detectable soil contamination during either sampling event. In
any case, even it' the 0.51 µg/L of toluene were to actually exist, its extent would be very
limited and is up to three orders of magnitude below drinking water standards. Therefore, no
threat to groundwater resources, the environment or human health exists.
2. Based on the above detailed findings, Kleinfelder recommends no further investigation or
clean-up and that this data be submitted to PHS/CHD to be used to support regulatory closure
of the former farmhouse UST which was removed in the late 198O's.
LIMITATIONS
Kleinfelder has prepared this report in accordance with the generally accepted standards of care
which exist in northern California at the time of writing. It should be recognized that definition
and evaluation of geologic and chemical subsurface conditions are difficult. Judgments leading
to conclusions and recommendations are generally made with an incomplete knowledge of the
subsurface and/or historic conditions applicable to the site. The conclusions of this assessment
are based on field observations and analytical results obtained from soil and water samples
collected from the site. More extensive studies may further reduce the uncertainties associated
with this assessment. Kleinfelder should be notified for additional consultation if the client
wishes to reduce the uncertainties beyond the level associated with this report. No warranty,
expressed or implied, is made.
Kleinfelder offers various levels of investigative and engineering services to suit the varying
needs of different clients. Although risk can never be eliminated, more detailed and extensive
investigations yield more information, which may help understand and manage the level of risk.
Since detailed investigation and analysis involves greater expense, our clients participate in
determining levels of service which provide adequate information for their purposes at
acceptable levels of risk. Atherton Kirk Development has reviewed the scope of work and
determined that it does not need or want a greater level of service than what was provided.
20-3978-01.W3 512017 R491 Page No. 5 of 7
Copyright 1997.
