Diamond Pet Food Processors of Ripon California LLC January 31,2013
Combined Annual and Second-Half 2012 Groundwater Monitoring Report Page 1 of 6
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the combined annual summary report and the results of second-half 2012
groundwater monitoring performed by Lawrence &Associates (L&A)between July 9 and
October 2, 2012, at Diamond Pet Food Processors of Ripon California LLC (DP), 942 South
Stockton Avenue, Ripon, California(Figure 1). Groundwater monitoring consisted of
measuring the depth to groundwater in all monitoring wells on July 9, 2012 (3rd quarter), and
October 1, 2012 (4th quarter). On October 2, 2012, monitoring wells OB-1, OB-2, OB-4, OB-5,
OB-7, OB-8, OB-11, OB-17, OB-19, OB-21, OB-22, OB-24, OB-25, OB-26, OB-28, PW-6 and
PW-7 were sampled for pH, electrical conductivity(EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), nitrate as
nitrogen, boron, calcium, chloride, magnesium, manganese, nitrogen, potassium, sodium,
sulfate, total alkalinity (including alkalinity series), and hardness. Iron was inadvertently not
included in the analyte suite.
Table 1 (following text)presents well descriptions including well names, casing diameter,
reference point elevation, total depth, screened intervals, and aquifer unit (s).
On October 4, 2012, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley
Region(CVRWQCB ) adopted Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) Order No. R5-2012-
0105 for the DP site (Attachment A). The new WDR reflect the DP site's conversion to a pet
food manufacturing facility, and rescinds and replaces WDR No. 5-01-148, issued to Fox
Valley Corporation on June 14, 2001,when the site was a paper manufacturing facility.
COMPLIANCE RECORD
DP was in compliance with all the monitoring and reporting requirements and effluent discharge
limitations set forth in WDR Order No. 5-01-148 between January and September 2012.
With the following exceptions, DP was in compliance with WDR Order No. R5-2012-0105
between October and December 2012:
1. The November 2012 effluent sample had a pH of 9.0, exceeding the allowable range of
6.5 to 8.5 pH units for effluent pH (Table 6).
2. Daily and monthly influent flow logs were incomplete during October and November
because flow meters had not yet been installed on the individual effluent and dilution
water lines flowing into the Clarifier. Influent monitoring reports are presented in
Attachment B.
3. Effluent(discharge from ASB-2) samples were not analyzed for boron, calcium,
chloride, iron, magnesium, manganese, nitrogen, potassium, sodium, sulfate, total
alkalinity (including alkalinity series), and hardness. Effluent monitoring reports are
presented in Attachment C.
4. Iron was not included in the annual analyte suite for groundwater samples (Table 3).
10107.02 Task 8 Lawrence&Associates
W:ICLIENTYDiamond Pet FoodsW 10107.01-Groundwater Monitoring)Groundwater Monitoring12012WQ201214TH QUARTER Annual
2012.docx
