Fox River Paper Company January 31,2007
Combined Annual and 4th-Quarter 2006 Groundwater-Monitoring Report Page 7 of 9
Fourth-Quarter Groundwater Monitoring
• Findings
Groundwater-monitoring results were generally similar to those from previous sampling
events (Tables 4 and 5).
Mounding within the semiperched aquifer occurred in the vicinity of the upper west field and
the active sludge disposal basin. The direction of the groundwater gradient was away from
the mound then generally towards the north at magnitudes between 0.0047 to 0.00 15 feet/foot
(ft/ft; Figure 6).
Mounding within the upper aquifer was present through the central portion of the site centered
on well TH-2; additionally, the influence of the Nestles' groundwater-extraction well was
evident from the depression of the groundwater gradient north of the site. The direction of the
groundwater gradient was away from the mound and towards the north at magnitudes ranging
between 0.0024 and 0.0022 ft/ft (Figure 7).
Mounding within the intermediate aquifer was present in the southwestern portion of the FR
site and in the vicinity of the City of Ripon's MWWTF ponds; additionally, the influence of
production wells PW-6, PW-7, and PW-8 was evident from the depression of the groundwater
gradient in the southeastern corner of the site as was the influence of Nestles groundwater-
extraction wells north of the site. The magnitude of the gradient ranged between 0.00036 and
0.0043 (Figure 8).
The areas of highest conductivity in the semiperched aquifer were in the northeast corner of
• the site in wells OB-4 (2,849 µmhos/cm) and OB-2 (2,203 µmhos/cm), along the northwestern
property boundary in M-1 1-B (1,850 µmhos/cm), and in the vicinity of the sludge-disposal
ponds and aeration basins in monitoring well OB-11 (2,124 µmhos/cm). The areas that are in
compliance with the WQPS of 1,213 µmhos/cm are the west central portion of the site in OB-
5, the north central portion of the site in wells OB-20, OB-23, and M-7-13, and in the
southeastern corner of the site along the Stanislaus River (Figure 9).
The area of highest conductivity in the upper aquifer was south of the aeration basins in well
TH-4 (1,986 µmhos/cm); the area of lowest conductivity was in the southeastern comer of the
site along the Stanislaus River in well TH-5 (97 µmhos/cm; Figure 10). With the exception
of well TH-4, all wells completed in the upper aquifer were below the WQPS of 1,580
µmhos/cm.
The area of highest conductivity in the intermediate aquifer was in the northeast comer of the
site in wells PW-4 and PW-5 (1,538 and 1,468 µmhos/cm, respectively); the area of lowest
conductivity was in the southeastern corner of the site along the Stanislaus River in well PW-6
(596 µmhos/cm; Figure 11).
The areas of highest and lowest total dissolved solids (TDS) concentrations in the
semiperched(Figure 12), upper(Figure 13), and intermediate aquifers (Figure 14)were
approximately the same as the areas of highest and lowest field conductivity values in the
semiperched (Figure 10),upper (Figure 11), and intermediate aquifer(Figure 12).
•
005194.00, Task 8 Lawrence&Associates
W.I Ciientsl FoxRiverl QuartedyMonitoring1100614Q200614th 2006reporLdoc
