Five-Year Water-Quality Report November 17,2008
Neenah Paper FR LLC Ripon Mill Page I of 19
INTRODUCTION
This document represents the five-year water-quality report for the Neenah Paper FR LLC (NP) Mill
in Ripon, California(Figures 1 and 2). This report is required by the California Regional Water
Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (CVRWQCB) Order No. 5-01-148,Waste Discharge
Requirements for Fox Valley Corporation and Fox River Paper Company, Ripon Mill, San Joaquin
County(WDR).
Per the WDR, Section F, Fox River Paper Company is required to submit a technical report every
five years which discusses the following areas:
1. A summary of actions taken to reduce the dissolved solids (TDS) in discharge from the plant
and the treatment system to the ponds and irrigation fields.
2. A hydrogeologic analysis on the effects of the reduction in dissolved solids in the discharge on
the semiperched, upper, intermediate, and lower aquifers. The analysis should evaluate
whether the discharge has a negative impact on local water quality.
SUMMARY
PROCESS WATER AND EFFLUENT QUALITY
1. The average TDS concentration of the mill and cogen sumps during the period 2002—2007
was 835 and 833 mg/L,respectively. During that period, TDS concentration varied between
290 and 2,000 mg/L in the NP mill sump and 220 and 1,300 mg/L in the cogen sump. Text
Figure 1 shows the eight-week running average TDS concentration for NP and the cogen
sumps:
Text Figure 1
1200 r-
Mill & Cogen Sump TDS -8-Week Running Average
i
v 4
900 A. - -
E
in '
O
F— -
600
i
---Mill Sump Cogen Sump
300 -- —
Jan-02 Jan-03 Jan-04 Jail-05 Date Jan-06 Jan-07 Jan-08 Jan-09
003044.02 Lawrence&Associates
W.•IClients ToxRiver-NeenahU year review reportsU Year Review 2008Weenah_5YearReview Aug2008.doc
