Bumpingjo be stop e, -$`'
951G
MANTECA—A Superior C rt judge
has ordered a halt to the dumping of tons
of coffee grounds at a cattle feedlot on
the n--th side of Highway 120 on South
MCI y Way.Judge Michael Garrigan
order,u the dumping stopped by Sept. 1
after an agreement was reached last
week between the district attorney's
office and the defendants, F&W Cattle
Co. and Commercial Salvage Co.The
coffee grounds are a waste product from
the manufacturing of instant coffee at the
Nestle's Food Corp. plant in Ripon. The
defendants had dumped the grounds at
the site,which they own,for about 10
years. The court order, part of a
stipulated agreement between the
parties, also barred the return of cattle to
the ranch site without prior approval
from the state Regional Water Quality
Control Board and a halt to the dumping
of cannery waste without the proper
permits. Deputy District Attorney Lisa
Brown said that while there was no
conclusive evidence the coffee grounds
had polluted the ground water, state
water quality officials were concerned
about possible contamination.
