1 KLE/NFELDER
engne novi-.acne somno..
WORK PLAN
Limited Soil Assessment
Sulfuric Acid Spill Area
Thermal Energy Development Partners
14800 West Schulte Road
Tracy, California
BACKGROUND
Kleinfelder understands that an approximate 2,000 gallon above ground storage tank
(AST) containing sulfuric acid has been in use at the project site for some time and has
recently been removed from the site. Kleinfelder observed during a site visit that the
AST area included a concrete secondary containment structure. The concrete flooring
appeared to have been corroded from acid spills from past AST operations.
Kleinfelder was supplied with a letter report by Universal Environmental Inc. titled
"Preliminary Site Assessment Plan for Thermal Energy Development," dated
September 26, 2007. This report included soil sampling activities which occurred within
and near the AST, including a background location. Soil samples were collected at
depths of 16 inches and 3 feet below ground surface (bgs). pH values beneath the
AST and within the containment structure were noted to be 0 pH Units from field
measurements and less than 2.0 pH Units from laboratory testing. Three perimeter
samples collected approximately five feet from the containment wall had reported pH
values ranging from 7.32 to 8.14 (laboratory data). The background soil sample
collected approximately 20 feet from the containment structure had a reported pH value
of 7.81.
This work plan is for the purpose of delineating potential sulfuric acid impact in soil
beneath the former AST and containment area at the site.
PROPOSED SERVICES
The following tasks detail Kleinfelder's proposed services based upon our
understanding of current site conditions, our site visit and information provided to
Kleinfelder from Universal Environment Inc.:
97054.T1/ST08P785 August 29,2008
0 2008 Kleinfelder Page 1 of 5
