•
Appendix A: Site Background Information
dispensers and associated product lines, within excavation Area A, were removed.
Several utility lines supplying the dispensers and an electronic card reading
machine located in the center island, could not be removed, and had to be left in
place during the excavation.
The excavation was performed by Elite IV of Stockton, California, under the supervision
and direction of an AGE representative. Excavated soil was stockpiled on plastic sheeting
and later transported to a licensed Class II disposal facility, for proper disposal.
A total of eight soil samples were collected from the floor and sidewalls of excavation
Area B, and sixteen soil samples were collected from the floor and sidewalls of excavation
Area A:
• TPH-d was reported in seven of the soil samples collected from excavation area B
at concentrations ranging between 12 mg/kg and 13,000 mg/kg.
• TPH-d were reported in four of the ten soil samples analyzed from excavation
Area A at concentrations ranging between 86 mg/kg and 3,300 mg/kg.
• One or more BTEX compounds were reported in five of the soil samples collected
from excavation Area B at maximum concentrations of 0.28 mg/kg, 0.15 mg/kg,
1.0 mg/kg and 8.8 mg/kg.
• BTEX compounds were not reported in any of the soil samples analyzed from
excavation Area A.
• TPH-d, ethylbenzene and xylenes were reported in the stockpile sample at
concentrations of 3,600 mg/kg, 0.02 mg/kg and 0.176 mg/kg, respectively.
The mass of petroleum hydrocarbons removed during soil excavation activity was
estimated based upon the analytical results of the 4-point composite stockpile sample and
from borings advanced during previous site assessment activities. An estimated
1,371 pounds or 220 gallons of diesel were removed from the site. Analytical results of
excavation soil samples are summarized in Table A3. Field procedures, sample results and
mass and volume calculations are outlined in the AGE-prepared Soil Excavation Report,
dated 31 August 2010.
Advanced GeoEnvironmenta4 Inc.
