VA-IF,Inc.
recommended in the field that one of the proposed soil borings near VE-1 be converted to a well with a screen
interval the same as VE-1's in order to have a monitoring point for a soil vapor extraction test. PHS/EHD
agreed with the modification recommendation.
The gradient of the groundwater has been typically east-southeast at the site. Due to the proximity of the
groundwater contamination plume to the domestic well, and the direction of groundwater flow,PHS/EHD
recommends installing an additional monitoring well in the vicinity of the domestic well. PHS/EHD also
recommends eliminating the advancement of soil boring SB-105 since soil sample analytical data from the
nearby MW-1,soil borings B-1 and B-2 already exist. PHS/EHD further recommends converting one of the
proposed soil borings near the former tank pits to a deeper 5-foot screened monitoring well to determine the
vertical extent of the contamination in groundwater as the most cost-effective approach to assessing the 3-
dimensional definition of the groundwater contamination plume.
If you have any questions please contact Jeffrey Wong at(209)468-0335.
Donna Heran,RENS,Director
Environmental Health Division
✓ n ,r• amu- `" d U
Jeffrey Wong, RENS Margaret La 'o,RENS
LOP/Site Maigation Unit IV Supervisor
C.
