RAYMOND GREER
Page 2
(bgs) from the boring advanced between the two former underground storage
tanks (UST) on March 7, 1997 were 1,400 parts per million (ppm) Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbon as Gasoline (TPH-G), 23 ppm Benzene (B), 200 ppm
Toluene (T), 53 ppm Ethyl-Benzene (E), and 410 ppm Xylenes (X). Petroleum
contamination was present in all soil samples collected at ten feet intervals
between 20 feet bgs to 80 feet bgs. Methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE) was not
detected but the detection limits were 160 ppm for the sample collected at 20
feet bgs, 40 ppm for the samples collected from 30 feet to 70 feet bgs and 8 ppm
for the sample collected from 70 bgs. Analytical results of the grab water sample
were 53,000 parts per billion (ppb) TPH-G, 21,000 ppb, 21000 ppb, 1700 ppb,
and 12,000 ppb BTEX, respectively. MTBE was not detected but the detection
limit was 1,000 ppb. A domestic water well is located approximately 50 feet from
the former UST site, which makes site investigation more urgent. In addition,
this well should be sampled and the water sample analyzed for BTEX, TPH-G,
and MTBE.
The proposed work is to commence by October 21, 1998. Failure to meet this
deadline may result in PHS/EHD requesting formal enforcement action by the
San Joaquin County District Attorney and may jeopardize your eligibility to
receive reimbursement for the costs of the investigation and remediation from
the Fund.
Submit completed permit application for the proposed soil borings and
monitoring well installations along with $89.00 permit fee before beginning work.
Contact PHS/EHD at least 2 working days in advance to schedule field work.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-
0335.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey Wong, EHS, Trainee Margare Lagorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: CRWQCB, Central Valley Region - Mark List
c: WHF, Inc. - W.
