Is this correct?
This site is a residence, people live there, the onsite domestic well is used every day.
A main contaminant of concern at this site is 1,2-dichloroethane in monitoring well MW-6 (current concentration
190 ppb), which is a deep well, screened discretely at 95-100 feet below surface grade (bsg). In addition to 1,2-
DCA this well continues to have high concentrations of TPH, benzene and MtBE.
The onsite domestic well is screened from 195-215 feet bsg, but is gravel packed from 50-215 feet bsg; there is
only a 50-foot grout seal. Except for a couple of detections of ethylbenzene and xylene in the past, the onsite
well has not been impacted by the petroleum plume. A neighbors well (listed on the data tables as Phillips DW),
located on the property to the north, has had two detections of MtBE; the new property owner there has
refused to allow access for their well to be sampled anymore.
In correspondence dated July 14, 2009 (available on Geotracker), the EHD directed the site to switch to semi-
annual groundwater monitoring and sampling per State Board Resolution 2009-0042. They have been doing this
for the past year. A new well, MW-11, was installed in July 2009 for vertical delineation. After two quarters of
sampling in which the results were reported as non-detect, the EHD directed the site to switch sampling of this
well to a biennial schedule correspondence dated January 26, 2010, available on Geotracker).
In Work Plan to Conduct Verification Soil Sampling, Ozone Bench Testing and Vertical Groundwater Evaluation
dated October 24, 2008 (available on Geotracker), the consultant proposed collecting soil and groundwater
samples to conduct a bench scale test for ozone infusion to address the remaining groundwater
contamination. This was approved by the EHD in correspondence dated November 13, 2008 (available on
Geotracker). During the fieldwork conducted in July 2009, this sample was collected and the bench scale test
was performed. I know they had to conduct extended attenuation tests, but I am still awaiting a report of the
bench scale test.
Hope this helps,
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
Iduncan@sjcehd.com
(209)468-0337 phone
(209)468-3433 fax
From: Hari Patel [mailto:HPATEL@waterboards.ca.gov]
Sent: Tuesday,June 08, 2010 12:15 PM
To: Lori Duncan [EH]
Cc: Bob Trommer; DAVID CHARTER; Kirk Larson
Subject: Claim No 8525, Your Case No. 2021
6/9/2010
