' v •
gas from the extraction wells to the remediation shed. The trenching system layout is shown on
Figure 20. The same trenches will be used for the air sparge system. Piping will be used to convey
air to the sparge wells for injection to the subsurface. Piping will be installed at a maximum depth
of two feet as shown on Figure 21. A two-foot by two-foot well vault will be installed over each
' vapor extraction and air sparge well. A gate valve will be installed at each well head to control the
airflow in or out of the well. In addition, a sampling port will be installed at each vapor extraction
well for monitoring purposes.
' Equipment operation will require the installation of an electrical power source and meter base. Site
system requirements include a 220V, single phase 150 amp power source and meter base. A
NEMA 4,UL Listed Control Panel will be located at the shed.
6.0 REMEDIATION SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION
' Upon review and approval of the remediation system design plans and specifications by EHD, ATC
will complete the following tasks.
1 6.1 Buildingy.Air Pollution Control District and Well Installation Permits
t An Authority to Construct and Permit to Operate application will be completed and submitted to
the SJVAPCD to allow for construction and installation of the proposed VES. The application
includes a site history, VES specifications, and analytical results. A complete set of plans will be
' submitted to the San Joaquin County Building, Planning and Fire Departments for review,
comment, and approval prior to construction and installation of the VES and groundwater
extraction and treatment system.
' 6.2 Construction and Construction Inspection
' Following approval of the design plans and specifications, obtaining County Building, Fire and
Planning Department permits, and SJVAPCD air permit to construct, systems installation in
' accordance with the approved Plans and Specifications will be initiated. Construction will include
completion of wellhead piping connections;pressure testing of lines; installation of the remediation
shed; connection of electrical service and installation; and plumbing of all process equipment
related to the VES and air sparge system.
6.3 Systems Startup and Operation
' 6.3.1 Vapor Extraction and Air Sparge Systems Monitoring
' After completion of installation, operation of the proposed VES and AS system will be initiated in
compliance with applicable regulatory agencies. Startup procedures will include monitoring,
maintenance, and sampling within the first five days of operation. Operation and maintenance of
' the systems typically includes three site inspections for the first week of operation, and site visits
once every week for the first month. After the first month of operation, site visits will be typically
sAenvironmental\25291\reports\irp.doc 8
