As presented in the Assessment Report, two
continuous core soil borings were completed to 75 feet, and four geoprobe soil borings to 40 feet.
Generalized site lithology consists of silt and clay with minor sand from the surface to 30 feet, and sand
with minor gravels and silt from 30 to 75 feet. Hydrocarbon impacted soils were identified at 20 to 30
feet below ground surface, where first groundwater was encountered.
Groundwater samples were collected at 32 to 37 feet in the shallow borings, and from 75 to 78 feet in the
deep continuous core borings. Both shallow and deep borings showed hydrocarbon impact to
groundwater including MtBE. One deep and five shallow monitoring wells were installed during the
second week of August, and a quarterly monitoring event was scheduled for 16 August 2000.
Based on the site investigation data collected to date, you must complete the following:
1. By 15 September 2000, locate and install a permanent water supply well to replace the
neighboring domestic well (DW-2)that was taken out of service in January 2000. San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Division (County) has special requirements for well installation in
areas of known groundwater contamination, and these requirements must be met. Contact Mike
Infurna at the County for further direction.
2. By 1 October 2000,properly destroy DW-2.
3. By I October 2000, prepare and submit a Problem Assessment Report (PAR) as presented in
Appendix A to the Tri-Regional Recommendations. The PAR must include a feasibility study to
identify and evaluate alternatives for remedying site soil and groundwater contamination.
California Environmental Protection Agency
:ted Recycled Paper
