Work Plan For Additional Groundwater Assessment 5
Ranch Market,23569 South Santa Fe Road,Riverbank,California May 10,2001
Site consists mainly of sands and silts. The lithology generally coarsens downward from sandy
silt towards the groundwater surface to silty sand and sand found at depth. No obvious low
permeability, confining layer of clay or silty clay was observed in the continuous core samples
collected from soil borings SB-1 or SB-2.
SCOPE OF WORK
Site Specific Health and Safety Plan, Permitting, and Utility Clearance
SECOR will use the existing site-specific Health and Safety Plan to cover the activities
proposed at the Site as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)
Standard "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response guidelines (29 CFR
1910.120). The document will be reviewed and signed by all SECOR personnel and
subcontractors performing work at the Site.
Permits for soil borings will be obtained from the SJCEHD. Existing access agreements will be
used for drilling on private property. Encroachment permits will be obtained for any borings or
wells that are located on within the public right-of-way.
Prior to conducting subsurface work at the Site, Underground Service Alert (USA) will be
contacted to delineate subsurface piping near the Site with surface markings. In addition, a
private utility locator service will be contracted to clear each of the proposed drilling locations.
SITE ASSESSMENT
Referring to Figure 2, SECOR recommends drilling a total of three soil borings in two phases
of work presented below:
Phase 1- Cone Penetrometer Testine and Vertical Water Sample Collection
Soil borings CPT-1,CPT-2, and CPT-3 will be advanced to approximately 65 feet bgs using a
CPT rig. The CPT log and depth discrete water samples collected from the two borings will be
used to further characterize the lithology and define the vertical distribution of hydrocarbons
dissolved in groundwater south and southwest of the former tank pit.
SECOR will supervise the drilling of two soil borings, CPT-1, CPT-2, and CPT-3 to an
assumed depth of 65 feet bgs (Figure 2). The CPT soil borings will be advanced using a direct
push cone penetrometer testing rig to log soil stratigraphy. Immediately adjacent to each CPT
borehole, a second direct-push borehole will be advanced to collect depth discrete grab
Fle:Ranch Market\WorkPlan\Rb-CPT Workplan.doc
