Quarter 2004 sample event No free product was observed during the First Quarter 2005 sample
event, however, a product sheen was observed on the purge water and the water in the sample
containers
33 Remediation System Operation and Maintenance and Performance Summary
' Operation and maintenance (O&M) of the remediation system is performed monthly (or as needed)
Photo ionization detector(PTD) readings from the SVE effluent and influent is performed monthly as
required by the San Joaquin Unified Air Pollution Control District (SJUAPCD) As required by
ISJUAPCD, a chart recorder provides a continuous chart of the catalytic oxidizer temperature The
chart paper is changed out on a weekly basis A brief description and performance evaluation of the
remedial system for the reporting period is presented below
3 3 1 SVE System
' The SVE system is comprised of a skid-mounted 250-cfm blower and catalytic oxidizer (SCAT-250)
with knockout pot manifolded to ten SVE wells (V-1 through V-10) During the reporting period, the
SVE system was approximately 85% operational
' On December 9, 16, and 30, the chart paper was changed out On December 28, SVE wells V-5 and
V-2 were shut down, and well V-3 was partially closed to transfer primary vacuum to well V-6 Well
V-6 is located adjacent to groundwater monitoring well MW-3 SVE well V-6 was isolated to
address free product issues in well MW-3 On December 30, the SVE system had shut down for two
hours and restarted The vacuum in well V-6 was measured at 96 inches of water, a measured flow of
' 109 cubic feet per minute (cfm), and a PID reading of 71 parts per million (ppm) on the
photoionization detector(PID)
On January 4, Geocon mobilized to the site to collect the SVE influent and effluent samples for
laboratory analysis and to adjust flows and vacuums on various wells to maximize contaminant
1 removal The PTD was non-functional and adjustments to the system could not be completed On
January 5, the chart paper was changed out and no adjustments were made to the system again due to
lack of an operating PID On January 6, the contaminant concentration, flow, and vacuum were
monitored in extraction wells V2, V3, V5, and V6 Based on vacuum readings, flows, and PID
readings well V-3 and V-6 were opened 100%, V-2 was opened 50%, and all other wells remained
' closed Wells V-2, V-3 and V-6 are each in the vicinity of well MW-3 The intent is to apply as
much vacuum and flow in the region of MW-3 as possible to attempt to reduce or eliminate free
product in the vicinity of MW-3
On February 1, Geocon mobilized to the site to collect the SVE influent and effluent samples for
laboratory analysis and to adjust flows and vacuums on operating wells to maximize contaminant
. removal The contaminant concentration, flow, and vacuum were monitored in extraction wells V2,
Protect No 58643-06-01 -6- rebruary 14 2005
