Quarterly Report Page 5
Quarterly Report
Water Sampling Protocol
AES 60 purge pump was used to purge the well, the actual water samples were withdrawn
with a clean bailer All equipment including the bailer, bailing cord, and the water depth
measuring devise were decontaminated by washing with detergent and water, then
thoroughly rinsing them with clear water
The depth to groundwater was measured from the highest point on the top of the casing to
the surface of the water table The devise used was an electric conductivity devise which
trips a red light and a buzzer when the probe touched water A minimum of three
measurements were made at each well and the final reading was noted after 2 or more
readings do not vary by more than 0 001 feet The total depth of the well was also
measured This information along with water parameters mentioned later were entered
onto the sampling sheet, a copy of which is attached The well volume was calculated
according to the formula supplied
Water samples were obtained as follows
A) First, one full well volume of water was withdrawn from the well,
B) The parameters of pH, conductivity or resistivity , and temperature was
measured The color, odor and presence of a sheen of the bailed water was noted,
C) A second and third well volume of water was withdrawn and the parameters
remeasured, if the results may vary by more than 10% then step C is repeated 0
D) The well was allowed to recover to 80% of its original volume or 2 hours had passed,
then a sample was withdrawn and placed in a 40 ml vial supplied by Sherwood
Laboratory of Hilmar, California Sherwood supplies the sample vials with the proper
amount of hydrochloric acid within each bottle so no further acid or any other
chemical should be added to the water The vials were placed on ice in a cooler and
kept on ice until delivered to the lab or turned over to their courier within 48 hours of
the sampling time
Purged water was placed in a 55 gallon drum, sealed, and left at the site
Water samples were taken from the water at or near the surface of the water table, unless
otherwise indicated The containers were filled so that zero head space was present in the
sealed vial before placing in the cooler Trip blanks accompanied all sample containers A
chain-of-custody was filled out by the sampler
