For surface improvements, there is a one single story brick
building The remainder of the site is covered with asphalt Previously, the site was operated
as commercial gasoline refueling station Currently the site is being used as a min, market
(Figure 2). On May 20, 1991, Semco removed three underground storage tanks, two one
thousand gallon tanks and on five hundred gallon tank These tanks were located in the front
ofthe budding The analytical results from the laboratory indicated the presence of petroleum
hydrocarbon in the soil at the bottom of the tanks The surface of the area where the tanks
were located is covered with concrete four to six inches thick
3 RECENT Fl(ELD CTIVITIES
On January 23, 1998, one soil boring (B 1) was drilled by Pierson drilling The boring was
drilled with an eight inch hollow stern auger to a depth of approximately 30 feet, as shown
in Figure 3. The borehole was drilled to the capillary fringe and undisturbed soil samples
were collected at five foot intervals(except at the 15 feet depth, where soil samples were not
recovered because hard rock was encountered) Then a groundwater sample was collected
from below the capillary fringe. The soil and water samples were sent to the Sherwood
Laboratory in Hilmar, California for testing
