Sampling locations are shown on the attached Site Plan. Samples will be collected from 0.5 feet
and 2.5 feet below ground surface using hand auger sampling equipment. Soil samples will be tested for total
lead, total and hexavalent chromium and total iron. Six soil borings will be advanced as outlined in the DTSC
request dated August 15,2002. Four soil borings (S-1, S-2, S-3 and S-6)will be collected on-site just south
of the northern portion of the fence. Soil samples will be collected at depths of 0.5 feet and 2.5 feet. Soil
samples collected will be analyzed for lead, chromium and iron. Initially, samples collected at deeper depths
(2.5 feet)will be held pending laboratory results from the upper six inches.
Two additional soil borings (S-4 and S-5)will be advanced within the fence area in the southeastern portion
of the site, directly east of SB-3 and SB-4 as shown on the attached Site Plan. Soil samples will be collected
at depths of 0.5 feet and 2.5 feet. Soil samples collected will be analyzed for lead, total and hexavalent
chromium, and iron. Initially, samples collected at deeper depths will be held pending laboratory results from
the upper six inches. Soil samples will be advanced using the hand auger techniques. Immediately after
sample collection, the shallow borings will be backfilled with the materials from the boreholes.
REPORTING
Analytical data obtained during the additional soil sampling will be incorporated to the Risk Assessment
currently being prepared for submittal to the DTSC and the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department.
We hope this provides the information needed at this time.
Sincerely,
HARDING ESE,INC.
-rte
GregoryLano,R.G.,REA
Vice President
Enclosures: Site Plan
cc: Mr.Robert D.Van de Vurst—Baker, Donelson, Bearman&Caldwell
Mr. Michael J.
