i
SECTION 2
- SCOPE OF WORK
h
2.1 OBJECTIVES
As discussed in Section 1, preliminary groundwater investigation
work has previously been completed to support the development of
a Problem Assessment Report for the Human Services Building site.
As the following Scope of Work (SOW) has been developed to extend
the groundwater investigation. This SOW will be referred to as
the Phase II, Groundwater Investigation. The previously complet-
ed work for the Problem Assessment Report will be referred to as
" Phase T.
2.2 LITERATURE SEARCH
Prior to initiating field activities, a review of available
hydrogeologic information will be conducted. This review will
y include:
o Federal, state and local publications.
a The McCormick-Baxter Site Investigation Reports.
o Logs for wells within a 2000 foot radius.
0 other information as appropriate.
The information gained in the literature search will provide data
'" on the regional hydrogeologic setting and gradients to aid in the
assessment of the horizontal and vertical extent of hydrocarbon
compound residues in the groundwater. In addition, background
groundwater quality data may be identified to use in the evalua-
tion of necessary cleanup levels.
3
2.3 INSTALLATION OF ADDITIONAL MONITORING WELLS
Five new groundwater monitoring wells will be installed as
illustrated in Figure 2-1. Well MW-4 will replace the recently
abandoned MW-1 as an upgradient monitoring well. The other new
wells (14W-5, MW-6, MW-7 and MW-8) will be used to further assess
,.9 groundwater quality in the vicinity of the site.
The Phase I monitoring well program (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3)
demonstrated the presence of elevated levels of hydrocarbon
compounds in MW-2 located close to the former tank location.
MW-3 contained less than 1% of the total compounds found in MW-2,
indicating a significant attenuation of compounds north of the
source. The groundwater gradient direction determined from the
:+ three wells suggests migration may be from the source area
northeastward, as shown of Figure 2-1, The proposed additional
- _% 2 1
