(WESTON) was contracted for the excavation and removal
of the affected soils. This remedial excavation was conducted From
June 26 1989 through July 12, 1989. The project was carried out
in conformance with WESTON's July 12, 1989, Final Soil Remedial
Plan which had been reviewed and approved by the San Joaquin County
Health District.
a Subsequent to the completion of the remedial excavation, two
additional tasks related to preparation of the site for the
construction of tate Human Services building were accompli, hed. The
additional tasks involved tl.e abandonment of one monitoring well
f:3 installed during the initial site ir.vestigation work and the
I;. removal of one fuel oil storage tank discovered upon initiation of
construction at the site. This report documents the work completed
f.,
for the remedial excavation and the two additional tasks.
tom;
2.0 summary
The elements of the remedial excavation project are summarized as
follows:
°5 0 The project started on 6/26/89 and all tasks were completed
by July 11, 1989.
o All soils that could be excavated having total petroleum
hydrocarbon residues (TPH) in excess of 10 mg/kg were removed
to the water table as required by the work plan. Soil samples
taken from the south wall of the excavation indicated that a
limited volume of soil containing TPH concentrations in excess
of the target cleanup level remained at the completion of the
excavation. However, it was not feasible to excavate further
beneath the sidewalk or under Washington Avenue.
o A total of 1,968 cubic yards (approximately 2585.8 tons) of
soil were excavated and transported to two different locations
for disposal. The final, disposal location of the soils was
— based on the soil analytical results. Soils which contained
in excess of 1000 ppm of TPH were disposed of at the Casmalia
" ^J
