Lead Mechanic- Continued <br /> ABILITY TO: <br /> Communicate effectively in the English language. <br /> Diagnose and repair complex mechanical malfunctions. <br /> Direct the work of journey-level mechanics. <br /> Work cooperatively with others. <br /> Read and understand technical repair manuals, electrical diagrams and specifications. <br /> Estimate the cost of repairs. <br /> Order supplies and equipment. <br /> Use basic math to interpret measuring instruments. <br /> Use the tools and equipment necessary in the repair and maintenance of heavy duty fleet <br /> equipment. <br /> Maintain records. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination equivalent to:high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by training <br /> and experience which demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of and ability to diagnose and <br /> repair automotive and heavy duty equipment,both gas and diesel. Experience in the repair of large <br /> buses and trucks is preferred. <br /> LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: <br /> Valid California Class B driver's license or higher. <br /> Incumbents in this position are required to furnish their own standard automotive mechanic <br /> hand tools. <br /> WORKING CONDITIONS: <br /> ENVIRONMENT: <br /> Shop environment. <br /> Driving a vehicle to conduct work. <br /> Noise and fumes from equipment operation. <br /> PHYSICAL DEMANDS: <br /> Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned tools and equipment. <br /> Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects. <br /> Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. <br /> Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. <br /> Standing for extended periods of time. <br /> HAZARDS: <br /> Working around and with machinery having moving parts. <br /> Approved by the Board of Education: 1112199 <br />
