Time Line:
As stated above, the two old production wells on the Southwest Hide Company
property in Manteca have already been abandoned as per the designed procedure.
The aquifer performance test will proceed once the inspection in mid-J.._,1_,ry is
completed and the necessity for additional drilling has been determined. It is
thought that the test will take place near the end of January, 1990.
The length of the main production well casing, on the Southwest Hide property,
will be viewed in mid-January once the pump has been removed. It is Duped that
this well can be used during the pump test. A new production well may meed to be
constructed to replace the Southwest Hide Company water supply.
Plans to further investigate the vertical extent of the ground water have
consisted of drilling and monitoring the one hundred forty foot well adjacent to
well 7 and 7A. The first set of ground water data from this well is included in
appendix A and the second set of data was submitted to the laboratory last w,_ek. '
Ground water elevations have been monitored on a regular basis and consistently
follow the trends of the two adjacent wells. It is felt that results from the
new water quality analysis should be examined prior to exploring the possibility
of constructing an additional deep monitoring well .
The brine recycling system design can proceed now that Southwest Hide Co» hany has
completed plans for its northern California hide processing system whicls l _: Iudes
the closing of it's Fresno plant and the opening of it's Modesto plant . MEC has
retained a mechanical engineer on staff and is in contact with an engine
experienced in evaporative processes. It is expected that plans for the
recycling system will complete by February 15, 1990 which will allow for March
1990 construction.
